Imagine it is 1940 and you live in paris france and you are a young boy who loves to play marbles with his friends. I hope that young readers will be introduced to this important book. Instead by following the journey of inseparable brothers joseph and maurice we see 1940s france through the innocent eyes of a child. The story is regaining popularity now because a new film adaptation was released earlier this year.

No one would describe this book as a thriller but it has false identities and escapes through the forest in the dark of night. However the language and descriptive passages of the original presentation is preferable. The english translation of the title is bag of marbles which doesn t have the same ring but had to be kept because of the symbolism. One person found this helpful.
